Literature Text

Unworthy am I to enter the glory,
too much evil has occured in my story.
But once i purify my slate,
then all will be well and great.
It is my deeds that have given me this chance,
to once again enter this beatiful dance.
Now here I am to pay for my sins,
this purgatory of mine now begins.
It starts as a minor yearning,
nothing difficult for a man of my training and learning.
But slowly it begins to last longer and longer,
each pain getting just a little stronger.
And then the searing came.
I cried out His holy name.
As my body lit ablaze,
I fell into a strange haze.
And just as all was going black,
I felt myself being pulled back.
The inferno had ended, but taken it's toll,
as there was little left of my soul.
But as always, fire is followed by rain,
and this water quickly soothed the pain.
Slowly my spirit began to regenerate,
filled with love and kindness, not hate.
And now that I am able,
I enter into what I once thought a fable.
A poem about purgatory.
